I'm not sure if this is particular to my drivers (drv8825), but for the life of me I could not get this board working until I realized that while RST and SLP are connected to each other, they aren't actually provided power. Once I soldered +3.3V to those pins, things worked fine. Looking at the original Protoneer design, it looks like this board is wired more or less as it is supposed to, just be aware that it might not work for you without modification.
